When I was first engaged in Internet product design, I was working in a start-up company without a professional design team, and everything depended on self-study. At that time, my understanding of design was really superficial.
At that time, I liked to visit dribbble and behance, indulged in various cool visual effects, and entangled in the application of unnecessary decoration such as projection rounded corners. Now think about it, these should serve the product itself, to achieve product goals and user goals. And service, not something that can be decided with a slap on the forehead when you think it looks good.
Judging from the current status of the Internet industry, there are very few companies with professional user experience teams. Most designers only Latest Mailing Database repeat the work of tinkering every day. They are not professional enough and have no right to speak in the company.
I suffer from the fact that there is no design expert to lead me to fly, no excellent colleagues to promote my growth, and no awesome products to let me play. But in fact, it is more reliable for no one to help yourself, just like the problem that you have racked your brains to solve will always remember better than what the teacher taught you directly.
How can the uninitiated design novice improve their design vision and design thinking to achieve self-improvement? The following are some of my own thoughts and experiences. I have summarized them myself and learned from colleagues around me. I hope they can help you who are confused.
Be sensitive and curious
Designing is not purely technical work, it is a kind of understanding, understanding comes from curiosity, and sensitivity will bring a steady stream of inspiration to curiosity, and then you will ask questions, why is the framework designed this way?
Why is the order conversion rate of this interaction mode higher than that of that interaction mode? Why is it all information flow, this module needs to display the comment content and the other does not? Why did this product not use this display method at the beginning and use another display method with a worse experience?
When you ask a question, you will think about the next step. The next step is to decompose the problem, and decompose the previous problem. What problem does this interaction mode solve, and what unique advantages does it have compared to that one? Only such a step-by-step derivation will help you better understand the problem and find the answer.
Be curious, keep asking good questions, then subdivide the questions, find answers, and try to turn curiosity into your experience value. Keep being keen on information, keep being curious, be keen enough, be curious enough, and you will find that there is knowledge and business opportunities everywhere in your life; you will keep moving forward.
For example, this is a problem I encountered myself: Why do Douyin, Xiaohongshu and other products have the "same city/nearby" information flow module?
